Some significant diagnosis coding changes include:
Low Blood Glucose changed from R73.02 (Impaired glucose tolerance (oral)) to E16.2 (Hypoglycemia, unspecified)
Cronobacter infection changed from B96.89 (Other specified bacterial agents as the cause of diseases classified elsewhere) to A49.8 (Other bacterial infections of unspecified site)
Viral Myocarditis changed from I40.0 (Infective myocarditis) to B33.22 (Viral Myocarditis)
Addition of "use additional code" for Tuberculosis (A15-A19) stating, "if applicable, for associated cachexia (E88.A)".
Note that E88.A is one of the most neglected codes in severity and risk adjustment.
There is one change in the ICD-10-CM guidelines on page 30 of the ICD-10-CM Guidelines under Section I.C.h. Asymptomatic individuals who test positive for COVID-19.
The revised guideline states:
“For asymptomatic individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and there is no provider documentation of a diagnosis of COVID-19, query the provider as to whether or not the individual has COVID-19. A false positive laboratory test is possible, and it is the provider’s responsibility to confirm the diagnosis and document accordingly.”
